You may recall that Animal Rahat rescued a beautiful black cow named Meena from the streets a few months ago and brought her to the sanctuary. Her owner had so neglected her that her horns had curled around and grown back into her face. One was actually puncturing her jawbone, and the staff immediately trimmed them. But she had a distended abdomen, too. At first, the veterinarians thought that she might be pregnant. They later determined that what was inside her wasn't a calf but the stuff of nightmares.
Meena's rumen was full of plastic bags that she had eaten out of desperation while scavenging for food. Animal Rahat's vets operated on her and pulled 47 kilograms of plastic out—that's 103 pounds!
